AWARDS

Ballarat High School offers a number of annual awards to celebrate student and school community  achievement across a broad range of areas.

 All of these awards are presented at the School’s Awards Night in term 4.

Please note: awards are listed in alphabetical order within their categories in this list

 

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Australian Catholic University award $350

Recipient must:

Be a Year 11 student
Intend to study at ACU
Have demonstrated commitment to academic achievement
Be involved in the broader school life
Model school values
Be community minded

 

Caltex All Rounder (Year 12 student) Medal & Certificate

Recipient must:

Academically achieve across a range of subjects
Be committed to excellence, willing to help others and makes selfless contributions
Have conduct which is exemplary at all times
Be a role model to other students

 

Dorothy Irene Ellis-Thomas Memorial Award (Year 12 students) $2000

One female and one male student

Recipients must:

Be intending to do tertiary study
Be committed to excellence
Academically achieve across a range of subjects throughout schooling
Be conscientious and hardworking in every year of school
Pursue excellence in all areas of school life
Be involved in a broad range of areas in school life

 

Dux of School $300

Year 12 student who achieves the highest ATAR score , as determined by the official VCE results. Endeavour Award Insight publications study guide set & Certificate

Recipient must

Be a Year 11 student
Be hard working
Be willing to improve
Attend all classes
Be considerate of fellow students and teachers

 

Prowse Perrin & Twomey $200

Recipient must:

Be a Year 11 student
Have demonstrated commitment to academic achievement
Have a Commerce focus
Be involved in the broader school life
Model school values
Be community minded

 

University of Ballarat –  Year 10 Academic Excellence award  $500

Based on school excellence results as determined by Team Leaders.

Years 7 to 10 Academic Excellence Awards

Approximately 16 students per year level
Determined by teacher judgements around subject excellence  

Year 11 Academic Excellence Awards

1 award for each Year 11 subject
Each Year 11 subject teacher selects 1 student per class based on academic results

Year 12 Academic Excellence Awards

1 award for each Year 12 subject
Recipients generated from official VCE results

All academic awards receive certificate and plaque, Year 12 also receive a book voucher.

Year 12 Learning Area Awards

Students in Year 12 subjects (can be either Year  11 or  Year 12 students)
Student with the best academic results in learning area from official VCE results
Supported by Community Businesses.

 

SPORTING EXCELLENCE

Sports Awards 

A boy and girl per year level 7 to 12 is awarded with a Sports Award

2 Top sports awards (male & female) in special presentations (medal) are also awarded

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE EXCELLENCE

Catherine King Federal Member for Ballarat Community Award

A community member is awarded for service to Ballarat High School
Award determined by School Leadership Team

 

PUBLIC SPEAKING EXCELLENCE

Debating Awards

One junior and one senior debating award
Determined by the Debating leader

Public Speaking Award

One junior and one senior public speaking award
Determined by the Public Speaking leader

 

LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE

Ian Hirst Memorial Scholarship $500

Recipient must:

Be a Year 12 student
Have demonstrated love of learning
Have a sense of humour
Be involved in the broader school life
Model school values
Have a strong sense of social justice
Intend going to university

 

Long Tan Student Leadership & Teamwork Award: 1 Year 12 ($1000), 1 Year 11 ($500), 1 Year 10 ($250)

Recipients must:

Model school values
Be community minded
Be involved in the broader school life
Demonstrate leadership and positive citizenship

Principal’s Award (Year 12 student) $200

Recipients must:

Have demonstrated commitment to learning
Be involved in the broader school life
Model the school values
Demonstrate leadership and positive citizenship

Sharon Knight Student Leadership Award  $50 Book voucher

Recipient must:

Be a Year 11 student
Model school values
Contribute to school life
Be actively involved in community service

ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE

Art Acquisition Award (Year 12 student)

$100 - $200
Chosen by Art Learning Area
Chosen art work is purchased and hung at the school.

School Production Award

One junior and one senior production award
Determined by the School Production Coordinator
